Towhees are generally ground-foraging birds, using a characteristic double-scratch technique to disturb leaf litter and expose seeds and invertebrates. The Collared Towhee is typically associated with montane and highland forest habitats, particularly brushy undergrowth and forest edges at higher elevations.
