Geositta peruviana, the coastal miner, is a small passerine bird in the family Furnariidae native to the hyperarid coastal desert of Peru, one of the driest places on Earth. The species inhabits the Atacama and Peruvian coastal desert zone, occurring along the entire Peruvian coast from sea level up to several hundred meters elevation on the coastal slopes of the western Andes, where sparse vegetation and sandy or rocky substrate provide nesting and foraging habitat. Miners in the genus Geositta are ground-dwelling birds that excavate nest tunnels in sandy banks and flat ground, laying eggs at the end of the tunnel in a grass-lined chamber.
