Coast Conch

Coast conch (Gynnidomorpha permixtana) is a small moth in the family Tortricidae, subfamily Tortricinae, native to coastal habitats of northwestern Europe, including the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and Scandinavia. Adults are small, with a forewing pattern of pale ochre and grey typical of many tortricid moths. Like other members of the genus Gynnidomorpha, the larvae are thought to feed on low-growing coastal plants. The species is associated with open, vegetated coastal habitats such as sand dunes, vegetated shingle, and coastal grasslands. Despite the common name referencing a 'conch', this is a tortrix moth—the name 'coast conch' follows a vernacular naming convention used for British moths in which 'conch' designates tortrix species.
