Clove Pink

The clove pink or feathered pink (Dianthus plumarius) is a perennial flowering plant in the family Caryophyllaceae, native to rocky limestone habitats in central and southeastern Europe. The species is named for the clove-like fragrance of its flowers — an aroma produced by eugenol compounds — and for the distinctive feathery or plumed appearance of its deeply fringed petals, referenced by the Latin epithet plumarius. Plants grow as low-spreading mats or cushions from four to thirty centimeters tall, producing glaucous grey-green linear leaves and flowers in shades of white, pink, or occasionally bicolored, typically in late spring to midsummer.
