Found across multiple habitat types including tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests, and tropical and subtropical coniferous forests, among 4 distinct biome types spanning the Australasia and Indomalayan realms. Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.

Clastidium setigerum is a filamentous cyanobacterium in the family Clastidiaceae, characterized by producing tapering filaments anchored to substrates by a basal holdfast cell. It grows on coarser algae, invertebrates, and rocky substrates in freshwater or marine environments. Its single, hair-like trichome ending in a long colorless hair is a distinctive morphological feature of this genus.
