Sphingobium scionense is a Gram-negative, aerobic rod first isolated in the Scion research environment in New Zealand. It inhabits forest soils and plant-associated substrates of Oceania. This chemoheterotroph degrades complex aromatic and aliphatic organic compounds in temperate forest soil environments.
