Sphingobium ummariense is a Gram-negative aerobic bacterium first described from Ummari, India, reflecting its geographic isolation locality. It inhabits tropical soils of South Asia. This chemoheterotrophic rod degrades aromatic compounds and other organic substrates in warm terrestrial environments.
