This species is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN and is associated with diverse terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Pericotes of the genus <em>Auliscomys</em> are typically inhabitants of high-altitude Andean environments, including puna grasslands, rocky slopes, and shrublands above the treeline.
