Found across multiple habitat types including deserts and xeric shrublands, tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests, and tropical and subtropical grasslands and savannas, among 4 distinct biome types spanning the Palearctic and Neotropic realms. Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.
Widely distributed across Africa (Egypt), Asia (Japan), Europe (22 countries), North America (Canada, Mexico, United States), Oceania and the Pacific (Australia), and South America (Bolivia, Chile).
