Phytophthora gonapodyides is a water mould belonging to the oomycetes, primarily a saprotroph found in aquatic and riparian environments including streams, rivers, and waterlogged soils. Unlike many Phytophthora species, it is not highly pathogenic to plants but may infect weakened hosts under certain conditions. It is found across Europe and North America in freshwater and estuarine habitats.
