Sphingobium cloacae is a Gram-negative aerobic rod isolated from sewage and wastewater environments, as its species name suggests. It inhabits polluted aquatic environments and wastewater treatment systems. This chemoheterotroph degrades aromatic compounds and xenobiotics, making it of interest for bioremediation applications.
