Pinnularia mesolepta is a freshwater diatom with a boat-shaped, symmetrical siliceous frustule and distinctive raphe canal along the cell axis. It inhabits benthic and epiphytic habitats in oligotrophic to mesotrophic freshwater lakes, streams, and bogs. This photosynthetic diatom forms part of the microbial biofilm community in freshwater habitats.
