Aphanocapsa holsatica is a colonial cyanobacterium in the family Merismopediaceae, forming small, diffuse colonies of spherical cells embedded in a colorless mucilaginous matrix. It inhabits the plankton of oligotrophic to mesotrophic freshwater lakes.
