Sphingobium limneticum is a Gram-negative aerobic rod first isolated from lake water environments, as its species name implies. It inhabits freshwater lakes and ponds across temperate regions. This chemoheterotroph decomposes dissolved organic matter in lacustrine environments and may degrade aromatic compounds.
