About

A medium-sized macaw of South America's tropical forests, savannas, and palm swamps from Colombia and Venezuela south to Bolivia and Brazil, the red-bellied macaw has predominantly green plumage with a distinctive yellow facial patch and red on the lower belly. Strongly associated with Mauritia palm trees whose fruits form a major part of their diet. They roost and nest in Mauritia palm cavities, making them sentinel indicators of palm swamp ecosystem health. Listed as Least Concern.
