Common pearlbrush

<em>Exochorda racemosa</em> is an ornamental deciduous shrub in the family Rosaceae, native to eastern China and widely cultivated in temperate gardens worldwide. It is recorded in Canada, Norway, Slovakia, Sweden, and the United States, reflecting its broad horticultural distribution beyond its native range. The species typically inhabits rocky hillsides, forest margins, and scrubby slopes in its native Chinese habitat, and thrives in well-drained, moderately fertile soils in cultivation. It produces spectacular displays of pure white flowers borne in terminal racemes in spring, giving rise to the common name pearlbrush. Mature plants form rounded, multi-stemmed shrubs that may reach two to four meters in height. Its conservation status has not been formally evaluated by the IUCN, and the species is considered broadly secure within cultivation and its native range.
