Habitat

Found across multiple habitat types including tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, tropical and subtropical grasslands and savannas, and flooded grasslands and savannas, among 5 distinct biome types within the Afrotropic biogeographic realm. <em>Bathyraja lindbergi</em>, commonly known as the Commander Skate, is a cartilaginous fish belonging to the family Arhynchobatidae. This species is assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. As a member of the genus Bathyraja, the Commander Skate is a deep-water elasmobranch that typically inhabits the cold, benthic environments of the North Pacific Ocean, often found at considerable depths along continental shelves and slopes. Like other skates, it typically has a flattened, disc-shaped body well adapted for life on or near the seafloor, where it forages for bottom-dwelling prey including small fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates. Reproduction in Bathyraja skates generally involves oviparous egg-laying, with females depositing eggs enclosed in protective cases. The species is occasionally encountered as bycatch in commercial fisheries operating in its range. Biological traits of this species remain poorly documented in the scientific literature.
