Cheetah

Combtooth dogfish

Centroscyllium nigrum, the combtooth dogfish, is a deep-sea shark in the family Etmopteridae, assessed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List. The species has been recorded from Chilean waters in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, where it inhabits deep oceanic environments on continental slopes. Like other members of the genus Centroscyllium, it possesses a series of small, comb-like teeth suited for grasping slippery prey. The combtooth dogfish is a small shark, characteristic of the lanternshark family in its modest body size and deep-water lifestyle. It is presumed to feed on fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans encountered in the midwater and benthic zones of its deep-sea habitat. As with many deep-sea elasmobranchs, detailed information on its population size, reproductive biology, and ecological role is limited. The species is currently not considered at significant conservation risk. Specific body length and weight data are not available in the current record.
