Gloeocapsa sanguinea is a cyanobacterium in the family Chroococcaceae named for its blood-red to deep crimson pigmentation derived from scytonemin and carotenoid pigments. It forms dark crusts on exposed rock, soil, and bark surfaces in a wide range of terrestrial environments. Its conservation status is not evaluated.
