Vibrio aerogenes is a Gram-negative, curved rod-shaped marine bacterium capable of producing gas during fermentation. It inhabits warm coastal seawater and estuarine environments. This facultatively anaerobic chemoheterotroph degrades organic matter and participates in marine carbon cycling in shallow coastal zones.
Vibrio mimicus is a Gram-negative, curved rod closely related to Vibrio cholerae but biochemically distinct. It inhabits coastal seawater, estuaries, and shellfish in warm tropical and subtropical marine environments. This facultatively anaerobic bacterium can cause gastrointestinal illness in humans who consume contaminated raw seafood.
