Lysobacter spongiicola is a Gram-negative, gliding bacterium first isolated from marine sponge tissue. It inhabits marine invertebrate hosts and associated reef environments. This chemoheterotrophic bacterium produces extracellular lytic enzymes that break down complex macromolecules including proteins and polysaccharides.
