Sphingomonas naasensis is a yellow-pigmented, Gram-negative aerobic rod first isolated in Saudi Arabia, as reflected in its species name. It inhabits arid and semi-arid soil environments of the Arabian Peninsula and adjacent regions. This aerobic chemoheterotroph degrades organic matter in hot, nutrient-poor desert soils.

Habitat & Distribution

Native to Asia, inhabiting ecosystems characteristic of the region.

Found in Taiwan.
