Pycnoporellus fulgens is a brightly orange-colored, annual bracket fungus with large angular pores forming conspicuous fruiting bodies on decaying conifer logs. It inhabits old-growth boreal and montane coniferous forests in Europe and North America, growing on fallen and standing dead conifers. This saprotrophic white-rot fungus is associated with ancient forest habitats and is considered endangered in many European countries.
