Plectocarpon lichenum is a lichenicolous fungus that parasitizes other lichens, particularly Lobaria species, in old-growth woodland habitats. It produces small, reddish-brown apothecia on the surface of its host lichen thallus. Classified as Vulnerable, its survival depends entirely on the presence of large, healthy populations of its host lichen, which itself depends on undisturbed ancient woodland.
