Common thrips

<em>Apterothrips secticornis</em> is a species of thrips in the order Thysanoptera, recorded from Norway, Sweden, and the United States. It is Not Evaluated on the IUCN Red List. The generic name "Apterothrips" refers to winglessness or reduced wings, a characteristic that distinguishes this genus from many other thrips. Like other thysanopterans, this species is presumed to be a plant feeder, likely associated with grasses or herbaceous vegetation in the cool temperate habitats where it has been recorded across Scandinavia and North America. The trans-Atlantic distribution may reflect either a genuinely broad natural range or dispersal through trade. Adults are minute insects typically measuring 1–2 millimeters in length. Winglessness or wing reduction limits aerial dispersal, so populations may show more localized distributions than winged thrips species. Diet and specific host associations are not comprehensively documented.
