Chloroscypha seaveri is a species of discomycete fungus in the family Chloroscyphaceae (or placed in Hemiphacidiaceae by some authorities), within the phylum Ascomycota. The genus Chloroscypha comprises small cup fungi that are saprotrophic or weakly parasitic on conifer needles and small woody debris, particularly within the order Pinales. These fungi typically produce minute, disc-shaped to shallowly cup-shaped (apotheciate) fruiting bodies, often green to olivaceous in colour due to the presence of unusual green pigments in the hymenium — a distinctive feature that gives the genus its name (chloros = green, scypha = cup). They are most commonly found in damp conifer forests of temperate and boreal zones, where fallen needles provide substrate for the saprotrophic decay process. C. seaveri is named in honour of an early mycological collector or researcher. As a fungus lacking a widely recognised common name and not formally assessed under IUCN criteria, it carries a Not Evaluated status. Like many small, inconspicuous wood-decay and litter fungi, its ecology and population dynamics are poorly studied. Cryptic fungal diversity of this kind is receiving increasing attention as molecular tools reveal the true breadth of fungal biodiversity in forest ecosystems.
