Sphingomicrobium marinum is a Gram-negative aerobic bacterium in the Sphingomonadaceae family, first isolated from marine environments. It inhabits coastal seawater and marine sediments. This chemoheterotroph decomposes organic matter in marine environments and produces sphingolipid-containing cell membranes characteristic of its family.
