A brilliantly colored Andean tanager with deep purplish-blue mantle and chestnut flanks contrasting with black face and wings, purplish-mantled tanagers inhabit humid cloud forest and forest edges at elevations of 1,000–2,200 meters in Colombia and Ecuador.
