Symphytocarpus amaurochaetoides is a myxomycete (slime mould) producing dark, clustered sporangia on decaying wood and plant debris in forest environments. It belongs to a group of organisms that alternate between a motile, feeding plasmodium and a reproductive sporangial stage.
