Gloeocapsa compacta is a colonial cyanobacterium in the family Microcystaceae, forming clusters of cells encased in thick, layered mucilaginous sheaths. It is commonly found on moist rock surfaces, soil crusts, and bark in terrestrial and semi-aquatic environments.
