Clade

분기군

Definition

A group consisting of a common ancestor and all its descendants, forming a single branch on the tree of life.

Detailed Explanation

Clade-based (phylogenetic) classification has replaced older grade-based groupings that assembled unrelated species by superficial similarity. A clade can be any size — from two closely related species to all living things. The entire clade of birds is nested within dinosaurs, meaning birds are technically dinosaurs. Clade thinking has transformed how we name groups and understand their evolutionary significance.
