Euglena mutabilis is a unicellular euglenid protist notable for its highly flexible cell body, capable of rapid shape changes through metaboly. It inhabits acidic freshwater environments, including acid mine drainage and bog pools with low pH. This mixotrophic organism performs photosynthesis in light and absorbs dissolved organic compounds when light is absent.
