Surirella biseriata e uma grande diatomea de agua doce em forma de bote com duas fileiras de fibulas formando um padrao distintivo ao longo de ambos os lados da valva. Habita zonas bentonicas de lagos e rios de agua doce limpa a moderadamente enriquecida em regioes temperadas. Esta diatomea fotosintetica contribui para as comunidades de algas bentonicas e a producao de materia organica.
