Rhodoplanes elegans e uma alfaproteobacteria gramnegativa da familia Rhodospirillaceae capaz tanto de fotossintese anoxigenica quanto de crescimento heterotrofico aerobio. Foi isolada de sedimentos de lagoa e forma colonias de cor rosa-clara devido a pigmentos de bacterioclorofila e carotenoides. Sua flexibilidade metabolica permite prosperar sob condicoes variaveis de luz e oxigenio em ambientes de sedimentos aquaticos.

Habitat & Distribution

Native to Asia, inhabiting ecosystems characteristic of the region.

Found in Taiwan.
