Um saíra de tamanho médio com uma máscara facial negra característica que contrasta com a plumagem branco-acinzentada do corpo, o saíra-de-cara-preta habita bordas de floresta, mata secundária, cerrado e vegetação arbustiva aberta em uma ampla faixa que vai da Colômbia e Venezuela ao sul, pelas Guianas e pelo Brasil. São aves adaptáveis, tolerantes a habitats perturbados e degradados, que se alimentam de frutos, bagas e insetos em pares e pequenos grupos. Classificada como Pouco Preocupante e está entre os saíras mais comuns em habitats alterados do norte da América do Sul.
