Tolypothrix limbata e uma cianobacteria filamentosa de ramificacao falsa da familia Microchaetaceae, que forma tricomas com heterocistos para a fixacao de nitrogenio. Cresce em solos umidos, rochas e substratos de agua doce, contribuindo para o ciclo do nitrogenio em ambientes oligotroficos. Seu status de conservacao nao foi avaliado.
