Forma talos arbustivos e ramificados que pendem de galhos e ramulos de arvores, tipicamente em ambientes florestais umidos. Como todas as especies de Usnea, e altamente sensivel a poluicao do ar, especialmente ao dioxido de enxofre, tornando-a um bioindicador util da qualidade do ar.
