Phacus hamelii e uma alga euglenoidea unicelular e fotosintetica com corpo celular achatado e assimetrico contendo cloroplastos e uma extensao caudal posterior distintiva. Habita ambientes de agua doce, incluindo tanques, valas e cursos dagua de movimento lento ricos em materia organica. Como outras especies de Phacus, usa um flagelo para locomocao e pode realizar tanto fotossintese quanto alimentacao heterotrofica.
