Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.

Os machos sao agressivos, muito vocais na defesa do territorio e realizam vistos sos exibicoes de voo. Reproduzem-se em grandes altitudes, mas algumas populacoes realizam migracoes altitudinais sazonais. Esta entre os beija-flores mais comuns nos habitats mexicanos de pinheiro-carvalho e floresta nebular de montanha.
