Hydnellum compactum é um fungo denticulado estipitado, com uma superfície do chapéu compacta de cor laranja-acastanhada a marrom-ferrugem coberta de espinhos na face inferior. Cresce no chão florestal de florestas de coníferas na Europa e partes da América do Norte, formando associações ectomicorrízicas com árvores.
