Physarum viride e um mixomiceto vibrante (mofo limoso) que produz pequenos esporangios amarelo-verdes brilhantes em materia organica em decomposicao, incluindo madeira morta, folhas e detritos em habitats florestais. Como todas as especies de Physarum, passa parte de sua vida como um plasmodio multinucleado que rasteja pelos substratos para englobar particulas alimentares. Esta especie e encontrada em florestas umidas em zonas temperadas e tropicais.
