Paraphysomonas subrotacea e um pequeno crisofita arredondado com escamas de sílica que apresenta escamas em forma de escudo na superfície celular. Habita ambientes planctônicos de água doce em regiões temperadas. Este protista fagotrófico alimenta-se principalmente de bactérias e pequenas partículas orgânicas nas redes tróficas microbianas de água doce.
