Green Hermit

O eremita-verde (Phaethornis guy), um grande beija-flor-eremita da úmida floresta tropical da América Central e dos Andes setentrionais, deve o nome à plumagem predominantemente verde dos machos — incomum entre os eremitas, que geralmente são pardos e bege. As fêmeas têm as partes superiores verde-azuladas e as inferiores ruivas. É encontrado da Costa Rica ao Peru e Venezuela, a elevações de até 1.600 metros no sub-bosque florestal. São importantes polinizadores de grandes flores de Heliconia e Calathea ao longo do chão da floresta, seguindo rotas de trap-line estabelecidas.
