Echinostelium paucifilum é um mixomiceto minúsculo que produz esporângios excepcionalmente pequenos, entre os menores da classe Myxogastria. Cresce em material vegetal em decomposição e cascas em micro-habitats úmidos e abrigados em florestas ao redor do mundo. O nome da espécie paucifilum refere-se aos poucos filamentos (capilícios) no seu esporângio, característica distintiva desse organismo minúsculo.
