Habita solos calcáreos e arenosos secos em ambientes de estepe e pastagens secas da Europa central e oriental. Este fungo saprótrofo decompõe matéria orgânica em solos de pastagens áridas e dispersa esporos quando seu perídio papiráceo se fragmenta.
