Dinobryon divergens é uma alga crisofícea colonial e loricada, distinguida por suas loricas vítreasem forma de vaso dispostas em cadeias ramificadas. Habita lagos e lagoas de água doce, particularmente em ambientes de águas frias oligotróficas a mesotróficas do hemisfério norte. Este organismo mixotrófico realiza fotossíntese e também ingere bactérias como nutrição suplementar.
