Hygrocybe turunda é um pequeno cogumelo higrocíbico de cor escarlate a vermelho-alaranjado com uma superfície de chapéu seco e escamoso que o distingue de espécies afins de chapéu liso. Cresce em pastagens sem melhoramento e pobres em nutrientes e gramados musgosos na Europa temperada, particularmente em prados antigos. Este fungo de pastagem indica habitats de pastagem há muito tempo não perturbados e não fertilizados, de valor ecológico.
