Cortinarius urbicus é um cogumelo de chapéu fibroso e robusto do género Cortinarius com um chapéu castanho sedoso e lâminas cor de ferrugem ao amadurecer. Habita florestas de coníferas e mistas, formando associações ectomicorrízicas com abeto, pinheiro e ocasionalmente árvores caducifólias. Este fungo obtém nutrientes trocando açúcares com os seus parceiros arbóreos no solo florestal.
