Common Coral Tree
Erythrina lysistemon, commonly known as the common coral tree or lucky bean tree, is a medium to large deciduous tree in the family Fabaceae. Native to southern Africa, it is particularly characteristic of South Africa's woodlands, bushveld, and coastal forests, and has also been recorded in Portugal as an introduced species. The common coral tree is renowned for its spectacular scarlet tubular flowers, which appear before the leaves in late winter and spring and attract nectar-feeding birds, particularly sunbirds. Its seeds are bright red with a black spot and have been used in traditional jewelry and decoration. The tree produces compound leaves with three broadly ovate leaflets and is armed with sharp curved spines on its trunk and branches. It is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN. Biological traits of this species remain poorly documented in the scientific literature.
koala
