Populations are also found in montane and highland environments at higher elevations.

Entre as baleias grandes mais acrobáticas, as baleias-jubarte são famosas por seus cantos complexos e evocativos entoados pelos machos durante a temporada reprodutiva, podendo durar horas e evoluir ao longo do tempo. Atingindo 16 metros e 30 toneladas, realizam as migrações mais longas de qualquer mamífero. Encontradas em todos os oceanos, alimentam-se de krill e peixes pequenos usando a técnica cooperativa de rede de bolhas.

Pelonema tenue e uma bactéria filamentosa delgada e incolor da ordem Achroonematales, encontrada nas camadas estratificadas com déficit de oxigênio de lagos de água doce e massas de água salobras. Forma tricomas retos ou levemente curvados de diâmetro estreito em zonas microaeróbicas a anaeróbicas. Como organismo quimio-heterótrofo, participa no ciclo do carbono em águas hipolimnéticas.
